The purpose of this study was to apply biblical counseling to the runaway adolescent based on the biblical approach to the problems of the increasing number of the runaway adolescents, recurring runaways and recurring juvenile delinquencies.
A premise of this study was as follows to examine the biblical counseling for the runaway adolescent. The fundamental problem of the runaway adolescent was that they do not experience themselves within God. As a result, they repeatedly run away and commit juvenile delinquency. Thus, an approach to adopt the biblical counseling principles of CCEF was applied to let the runaway adolescents find themselves within God, and come to have a faith through Jesus Christ and all creatures.
For the actual counseling of the runaway adolescent, the subjects of this study were institutions, religious organizations and runaway adolescents. Most of the runaway adolescents did not have a religious background, so that a gradual approach was adopted in order to conduct effective biblical counseling. In order to measure and evaluate the biblical counseling for the runaway adolescent, one of the psychological test measurements, MMPI, was used and the effects of the biblical counseling were verified from analyzing MMPI of the runaway adolescent. The first day of the counseling was a starting point as the adolescent entered the institution, and the pre MMPI test was conducted. The first 10 adolescents as a target group were subjected to the intensive care, and the MMPI test was conducted again to the target group graduates who completed the rehabilitation program for the runaway adolescent for 6 months from their entrance to the institution. The MMPI values were estimated by each measurement, and pre and post-program changes of the MMPI were examined in order to review the changes of the biblical counseling for the runaway adolescent. Based on the measurements and examinations as mentioned above, the effects of the biblical counseling were verified and a suggestion was made to adopt biblical counseling program in institutions for the runaway adolescent.
