인생 가운데 중년은 중요한 전환점의 시기이다. 중년이 되면 가정적으로 사회적으로 왕성하게 활동하는 시기이지만 또한 자신의 한계를 느끼게 된다. 신체적으로는 쇠퇴를 경험하면서 심리적인 변화와 함께 정체감의 위기를 경험하게 된다. 또 이제까지의 살아온 삶을 되돌아보게 되면서 자신의 내면적인 자아에 집중하게 된다. 이런 심리 변화와는 관계없이 기독 중년부부들은 사회적, 가정적, 교회적으로 요직을 차지하면서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 그리스도의 제자로서 중년 부부들은 빛과 소금의 역할을 가정과 사회와 교회에서 마땅히 감당하여야 한다. 때론 중년위기의 부부들에게는 이것이 과중한 부담이 되기도 한다. 중년의 위기가 찾아오더라도 부부관계가 돈독하면 위기를 원만히 넘어가게 된다. 그러나 부부의 관계가 소원하거나 원만치 못할 때는 중년의 위기를 헤쳐 나가기가 어렵게 된다. 기독 중년 부부들에게 일어나는 갈등의 요소는 다양하다. 그 요인으로 부부의 결혼생활에서 일어나는 관계요인, 중년 위기에서 일어나는 여러 심리 요인들, 그리고 기독 부부들 사이에 벌어지는 신앙과 교회 봉사의 차이를 들 수 있다. 그럴 때 교회 안에서 이들을 위한 성경적 상담이 필요하다. 성경적 상담은 성경 말씀과 기도로 진행되는 성령의 역사로 예수 그리스도의 인격을 닮아가는 변화의 과정으로서 기독 중년 부부들의 문제해결에 좋은 방안이 된다. 필자는 기독 중년 부부들의 갈등이 교회 안에서 쉽게 드러나지 못하는 현실 속에서 성경적 상담을 피력해 보았다.

Mid-life is an important turning point of one`s life. It is a time where one actively lives; experiencing prosperity both at home and in the society, but it is also a time where one realizes self-limit. One experiences physical decline and identity crisis together with psychological changes. Also, it allows for one to focus on the interior self while reflecting back on the life lived. Despite such psychological changes, Christian mid-age couples have important roles holding important posts in their homes, society, and at church. As disciples of Jesus Christ, mid-age couples must manage their roles as light and salt in their homes, society, and at church. This may come at them as a heavy burden at times. If marriage life is firm and sincere, couples may pass mid-life crisis smoothly but if marriage life is not firm and sincere, it is much harder for them to overcome mid-life crisis. There are diverse factors that cause conflicts in Christian mid-age couples. The factors could be relationship factors that happen in marriage life, many psychological factors that occur in mid-life crisis, and the differences between faith and volunteer work at church that occur between Christian couples, to name a few. When such conflicts occur, there needs to be Biblical counseling for these couples. Biblical counseling is a movement by the Holy Spirit through the Word of God and prayer, which is also a transformational process, transforming one to be more like Jesus Christ. It is a good solution for problem solving of Christian mid-age couples. The writer approached the conflicts of Christian mid-age couples that do not reveal easily in the reality of church atmosphere through Biblical counseling.
