[통합주의] 기독교상담을 위한 신경과학의 실천적 함의

 Recently the newly developed discipline of neuroscience has provided a new perspective on psychological problems and useful information for effective counseling interventions. The human brain's neuroplasticity is viewed as the basis for therapeutic interventions employed across various theories. Human begins are in nature pursuing meaningful relationships with others, and in this enterprise the social brain plays a pivotal role in executing and regulating human relational needs. The human brain is a biological organism that is very sensitive to a variety of external stimuli, especially the relational experiences of interactions with the primary caregivers. In particular unfavorable interactions repeatedly taking place between the child and caregiver negatively affects the brain's structure and function, thus hindering the smooth connection and cooperation between the left and right hemisphere and upper and lower regions in the brain. As a result, the child develops a pathological cognitive and emotional schematic and personality structure, making it difficult to form healthy relationships with other people and to lead a satisfying life. In this regard, neuroscience-informed psychotherapy is a dialogic process that brings about neuron-level changes, along with psychological and emotional changes by revitalizing the social brain. Here it is crucial that the counselor can provide his client with a new type of interpersonal relationship. In this therapeutic relationship, the Christian counselor is to view his clients as bearing God's image and provide them valuable opportunities for "correctional relational experiences" characterized by genuine acceptance, positive regard, and empathic understanding. In such a safe and holding environment, the client is likely to participate in the counseling process with hope for the change, thus obtaining psychological and emotional integration along with the integration of the brain. To achieve such therapeutic changes, the task of Christian counselors is to deepen the knowledge of human beings and to improve counseling techniques by adding neuroscience-providing information to their biblical view of humans. The counselor's profound understanding of neuroscience and clinical ability to utilize it will be used as a valuable resource to reveal God's creativity and honor God by bringing psychological and spiritual transformation to the client.

최근 신경과학이 제공하는 뇌에 대한 정보와 이해는 심리적 문제에 대한 새로운 관점과, 그에 따른 효과적인 개입을 위한 유익한 정보를 제공하고 있다. 특히 뇌의 신 경가소성에 대한 새로운 이해는 상담의 치료적 개입을 통한 심리적 변화와 뇌의 신경 학적 변화 간의 긴밀한 연관성을 보여주고 있어, 신경과학은 심리치료에서 소중한 자 원으로 받아들여지고 있다. 인간은 본질적으로 다른 사람들과 의미 있는 관계를 추구 하는 존재로서, 사회적 속성을 가진 뇌는 인간의 관계적 욕구를 집행하고 조절하는데 중추적인 역할을 한다. 인간의 사회적 뇌는 외부의 자극에 민감하게 반응하는 생물학 적 유기체로서, 특히 주 양육자들과의 건강하지 않은 상호작용으로 이루어지는 관계 경험은 신경학적 수준에서는 뇌의 구조와 기능에 부정적인 영향을 미치게 되어 뇌의 좌반구와 우반구 간 그리고 상위 영역과 하위 영역 간의 순조로운 연결과 협력을 방 해한다. 그 결과 내담자는 병리적인 인지정서적 도식 및 성격구조를 형성하게 되어 건강한 대인관계를 형성하는데 어려움을 겪고, 삶의 전반에서 만족과 행복을 경험하 지 못하게 된다. 이런 점들을 고려한다면, 심리치료는 내담자에게 이전과는 다른 새로 운 유형의 대인관계를 제공하여 사회적 뇌를 재활성화시킴으로써 뉴런 차원의 변화와 심리정서적 변화를 일으키는 치료적 과정이라 할 수 있다. 이 치료적 관계에서 기독 교상담자는 내담자를 하나님의 형상대로 지음을 받은 소중한 존재로 인식하고 온전한 수용, 존중, 공감적 이해를 보여줌으로써 ‘교정적 관계경험’의 기회를 제공한다. 그로 인해 내담자는 변화의 가능성에 대한 희망을 가지고 상담과정에 적극적으로 동참하게 되면서 뇌의 통합과 함께 심리정서적 통합을 성취하게 된다. 이와 같은 치료적 변화 를 이루기 위해서는 기독상담자는 성경적 인간관의 기초위에 신경과학의 지식과 정보 를 추가하여 인간이해에 대한 깊이를 더하고 상담기술과 활용능력을 함양해야 한다. 신경과학에 대한 온전한 이해와 활용능력은 내담자에게 뉴런수준의 변화와 심리적 그 리고 영적인 변형을 가져옴으로써 하나님의 창조성을 드러내고 하나님께 영광을 돌리 는 소중한 자원으로 사용될 것이다.
