새로운 한 주가 시작되었습니다. 이번 주는 새로운 한 달의 시작이기도 합니다. 하나님께서는 매달 새로운 일들을 행하십니다. 우리는 그러한 하나님의 일에 대한 기대와 소망이 있습니다. 이번 달에 있을 새로운 일들을 사모할 때 우리가 기억해야 하는 것은 하나님을 신뢰해야 한다는 것입니다. 그럴 때 그 새로운 일의 의미를 깨달을 수 있습니다.
오늘의 요절은 사 26:3입니다.
“-[사]26:3 주께서 심지가 견고한 자를 평강하고 평강하도록 지키시리니 이는 그가 주를 신뢰함이니이다”
주님께서는 심지가 견고한 자를 평강하고 평강하도록 지키십니다. 계속해서 평강하게 붙들어 주시는 것입니다. 그 이유는 그가 주를 신뢰함으로 주님께 순종하면서 주님과 동행하기 때문입니다. 주의 대로가 펼쳐졌지만 그 길을 의심하고 걱정하며 회피하는 사람은 평강을 얻지 못합니다. 왜냐하면 주를 의심했기 때문입니다. 평강으로 채워지는 중요한 방법은 바로 신뢰함으로 나아가는 것입니다.
마태복음 14장에서 베드로는 물위를 걷다가 물 속으로 빠져들어갔습니다. 그는 주여 나를 구원하소서 소리를 질렀고 예수님께서는 바다 위를 걸으시면서 즉시 손을 내밀어 그를 붙들어 주시면서 ‘믿음이 적은 자여 왜 의심하였느냐’라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그를 붙들어서 배에 함께 오르셨을 때 바람이 그쳤습니다. 베드로는 바람과 깊은 물을 보면서 주를 의심했던 것입니다.
그걸 의심하지 않을 때 더할 나위 없는 평강이 임합니다. 지금도 우리가 우리를 도우시고 인도하시는 주님을 따라가고자 할 때 마음 자세는 신뢰하는 것이 되어야 합니다. 그럴 때 다음 구절의 고백이 나타납니다.
“[사]26:4 너희는 여호와를 영원히 신뢰하라 주 여호와는 영원한 반석이심이로다

신뢰할 만하니까 신뢰하라고 말할 수 있습니다. 주님은 영원한 반석이니까 반석이 되심을 찬양할 수 있습니다. 어려움을 경험하게 하시는 이유는 다 주의 계획이 있기 때문이었습니다. 그 계획을 따라갈 때 주의 영광을 볼 수 있습니다. 여러 가지 어려운 형편은 하나의 결과를 향하는 과정이었던 것입니다. 결과 속에서 나타내시는 하나님의 뜻은 바로 의를 나타내는 것이었습니다.
“[사]26:6 발이 그것을 밟으리니 곧 빈궁한 자의 발과 곤핍한 자의 걸음이리로다
[사]26:7 의인의 길은 정직함이여 정직하신 주께서 의인의 첩경을 평탄하게 하시도다”
하나님이 인도하시는 단 하나의 첩경이 있었습니다. 그 인도하심을 따라갈 때만 의인이 될 수 있었습니다. 그 의인의 첩경을 나아가는 과정은 힘들었지만 그 길은 정직했습니다. 하나님께서는 그러한 의인의 길을 평탄하게 하셔서 영광을 받으십니다. 오늘도 우리의 삶이 이러한 삶이 되도록 노력해야 하겠습니다. 주님이 인도하시는 대로 주님이 이끄시는 대로 담대히 나아가서 의인의 첩경을 평탄하게 하시는 하나님을 경험하고 그 하나님을 찬양하는 우리 모두가 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

[Isaiah]26:7 The way of the righteous is upright; the Lord, being upright, makes the paths of the righteous straight.
A new week has begun. This week is also the beginning of a new month. God does new things every month. We have expectations and hopes for such works of God. As we yearn for new things this month, what we must remember is that we must trust in God. Then we can realize the meaning of those new things.
Today’s key verse is Isaiah 26:3.
“-[Isaiah]26:3 You will keep in peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”
The Lord keeps in peace and peace the one whose mind is steadfast. He continues to hold him in peace. The reason is that he walks with the Lord, obeying Him by trusting in Him. The Lord’s path is laid out, but those who doubt, worry, and avoid the path will not find peace. This is because they doubted the Lord. The important way to be filled with peace is to move forward with trust.
In Matthew 14, Peter walked on water but then he began to sink. He cried out, “Lord, save me!” and Jesus, walking on the water, immediately stretched out His hand and held him, saying, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” When He held him and climbed into the boat with him, the wind stopped. Peter doubted the Lord as he looked at the wind and the deep water.
When we do not doubt that, the greatest peace comes. Even now, when we want to follow the Lord who helps and guides us, our attitude must be one of trust. Then the following verses of confession appear.
“[Isaiah 26:4] Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
[Isaiah 26:5] He has brought down those who live on high; He has broken down the lofty city and laid it down to the ground; He has brought it down to the dust.”
We can say that we trust because He is trustworthy. We can praise Him for being the rock because He is the eternal rock. The reason He made us experience difficulties was because He had a plan. When we follow that plan, we can see His glory. The various difficult situations were a process toward one result. The will of God revealed in the result was to reveal righteousness.
“[Isaiah 26:6] The foot will tread it down, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.
[Isaiah 26:7] The way of the righteous is upright; You, being upright, make straight the paths of the righteous.”
There was only one path that God led us to. We could become righteous only when we followed that guidance. The process of walking on that path of the righteous was difficult, but the path was upright. God makes straight the paths of the righteous and receives glory. We must strive to live like this today. I pray in the name of the Lord that we all may boldly go forward as the Lord leads us, experience God who makes the path of the righteous smooth, and praise Him.
